I don't own a cell phone. I am Deaf ! However, I did bring my blackberry pager once on my long run. That was probably the only time I ever did.

I don't actually use it, hopefully I will never have to on a run. I take it when I do long runs, just in case, God Forbid, something happens to me, and I need to have Bill come pick me up, etc. Honestly, it weighs too much to keep in my windbreaker pockets, so it goes in my Camelbak.

Although, my brother had his when we did the marathon together and he would update my family on our progress so they knew when to be at our checkpoints. That worked out well for us!

I always run with my phone. It's not like I'm expecting a call or anything. But being a woman, you never know what could happen when you're out there alone. Thank goodness, I've never had to use it. But ya never know.

I purposely got a phone with a decent camera (3 megapixel) so that when I take it on long runs and runs in the dark (for safety), I will have a camera in case I encounter something worth taking a picture of. I put it in the pocket of my Nathan hydration belt and I don't even notice it.

Hi Kara,

First off, great blog. I have been checking-in on Between the Miles over the last few weeks and thought now may be a good time to reach out. You are doing an excellent job of creating community and interest with your writing.

My name is Ryan and I'd like to know if you'd be interested in trying-out and reviewing (on your site/blog) an innovative new laundry solution for activewear clothing - ProWash activewear detergent.

As you may already know, most athletic clothing these days is designed to retain sweat and maintain a dry feel to the skin, enhancing athletic performance and experience. However, when these same clothes are washed after a workout, ordinary laundry detergents are unable to remove the odors and bacteria, leaving them stuck in the nooks and crannies of high performance fabric. Fortunately, the creators of Dry Cleaner's Secret have engineered an innovative solution: ProWash. Now, consumers have a product they can trust to quickly and easily clean and eliminate odors, bacteria and stains from activewear clothing.

Do you think you would be interested in trying it out and posting a review about it on your site/blog? If so, all I need is your name and mailing address and I'll mail you a full-sized container of ProWash to experience for yourself.

Thank you for your kind consideration and I look forward to hearing from you. Keep up the great work with your site/blog!

Warm regards,

Ryan

PS - Here is a recent news article that articulately explores ProWash in detail:

I took my cell phone to Rock n Roll San Antonio, because my sister was in the hospital. I know I probably should run with a phone for safety reasons, because if someone tries anything, they are so going to need an ambulance. Sometimes when it is kind of late, or I've had injury problems, I'll remember to bring it. One of the reasons for going out for a run is to be unreachable.

I use mine for timing purposes (I need a good watch) and the "just in case".
