FALL Running Gear

Often, in the Northwest, there is transition from summer to fall – a gradual cooling with the shorter days. But this year it seemed too happen overnight.

My Checklist for Fall Gear:

1. Waterproof top and pants.
Today, in the pouring rain, I wore poly shorts and a technical shirt. These fabrics are not as bad as cotton, but I still felt heavy wet. (They do however dry faster than cotton.)
2. Waterproof holder for the iPod.
I ended up slipping my exposed played into my back pocket. It stayed relatively dry. (That’s how fast I run : )
3. New Gloves
I’ve yet to find a rain proof pair. I usually just pull down my selves in an attempt to keep dry.
4. A Bright Cap
A cap with a big brim to keep the rain out of the eyes. Just till winter – then I switch over to a headband.
5. New Socks
Still looking for a sock that keeps the feet warm while running – but are not too THICK.

Looks like I’ve got a lot of shopping to do. I would love to hear what everyone else is buying this Fall.

Well, I just went to the Title 9 blowout sale here and bought more...shorts. Ones with a lot of reflective stuff on them because in many ways the only difference between summer and fall in San Diego is it's darker in the mornings now. That's the only addition, beside long sleeved shirts too. I'm so jealous of your gear, Kara.

I'm not really sure how I don't own any waterproof gear, but I need it. Running with a makeshift garbage-bag poncho is just a little too embarrassing!

Not buying a lot yet, I'm just shifting my gear. In the Midwest, it's a gradual change but it seems dramatic when you're doing early morning runs.

The layered look?
I like that idea Ken.

Like the NW, it seems to have become fall overnight here in the NE too.

I am going to treat myself and get a nice REAL pair of tights (not the cotton ones like I have now) so I keep on running outside. Now that I've been on the outside for so long, I dread going back into the treadmill for anything other than speed work.

I just drag out my old long sleeved tech shirts, a running shell occasionally, and Brooks gloves (one thin pair, one thick pair). Oh, and a knit cap for the really cold days, like in the high 20's low 30's!
