Runscapes #12

Saturday’s Run
Around the 5 mile mark a female ran past me. She had young boy on a bicycle riding beside her. I turned the corner to spot her running off into the underbrush while her son waited on the path...
How many of you have taken a potty break along the path?

Motivation Break Down

poppy in the wind
“We run when we’re scared, we run when were ecstatic, we run
away from our problems and run around for a good time.”
Christopher McDougall Born to Run:

I’ve been running for over 25 years. It keeps me sane and connected to the outside world. Until recently… I’ve lost my running self.
(See previous post – Lost – The Zen of Running)
So like any runner with trouble spots, I head out looking for some quick solutions.
I stumbled upon this Greek concept while looking up motivation.
Arete
“Its basic sense means goodness, excellence, or virtue …this notion of excellence was ultimately bound up with the notion of the fulfillment of purpose or function: the act of living up to one's full potential.”
As my race PR times began to flounder – so did my motivation. (I discover there is a connection.)
If by running I am striving for excellence – my only true opponent is myself. Why get on the track and run 400s over and over again? Why push my body and soul to the limit? Since the outcome remains fixed - I no longer run PR s but PW s.
“Motivations aren’t external but internal – things we do for our own satisfaction."
Daniel Pink

Reasons WHY I RUN that are no longer motivational:
  • For Health
  • To Compete
  • For Sanity – Well this is a Must Do indulgent – No choice.
Looks like I need to do some more research on motivation and purpose. Until then I will keep on running - albeit aimlessly.

Runscapes #11

I'm going to try and start my runs earlier in the day as it is finally warming up. I sure don’t like running in the heat of the day!
PS.
I’m temporarily trying out Vimeo for posting my Runscapes videos. The seem to have more options then YouTube - but they do take longer to process.

Vega Shake Review

Vega shake

I was fortunate enough to receive a free sample of Vega Shake & Go Smoothie powder.

Review:
  • The package is bright and informative with easy instructions.
  • The powder is super fine - so easy to mix up. (I did use my blender but it is not necessary.)
  • It was a little dilute when mixed 1 Cup water to 2 Tbs powder.
  • It had a nice light chocolate taste. No other discernible flavors (My own preference flavor would be Tropical Tango.)
  • For a quick meal this powder packs a punch. With 11 grams of non-soy protein.
  • It would be handy for traveling or while on vacation.
  • Could be used as a quick and healthy beverage right after a race.
Thanks Sequel for the sample.

After Thoughts:

Next time I may whip it up with soy milk and a banana!

BTW It has 2500 mg of plant based Omega 3-6-9.
“Studies have shown that omega-3 fatty acids can have a positive impact on or prevent serious degenerative illnesses like heart disease, hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and more. – Women to Women
Here is a list of conditions that may or may not improve with the intake of Omega-3 fatty acids.
I still believe that eating a variety of basic (none processed) foods is the best way to stay healthy.

How many fruit and vegetables have you had today?
