Home Workouts

What accomplishment are you most proud of from the past year?

I would have to say my transition from doing a strength workout at the gym to the home environment without feeling guilty!
When my gym moved and membership was canceled I continued to visit drop-in centers at local gyms. I would come home exhausted and usually spent the evening complaining of a sore back or whatever.
I would always over do it!
Now, I workout at home. I use a variety of strength techniques and training equipment including:

It does take a little more determination with distractions such as Twitter. But I’m pretty proud of the results.

Burpee Try-outs

When the gym I belonged to closed I swore I would never get wired into a gym membership again.
But I do occasionally drop into the community gym. (Despite the sucky equipment.) For variety, I have outfitted my office with plenty of equipment I use. Including bands, free weights, kettlebells, and my ball.
Despite this stuff I am always on the look-out for new ways to strengthen up. Which lead me to CrossFit. They have a lot of workout material online (including videos) and are wizards at providing variety.
Just check out one of their WOD.
A popular workout is the Burpee.

And there are many variants to this one routine:

  • No-pushup burpee
  • Non-jump burpee
  • Long-jump burpee
  • Jump-tack burpee
  • Jump-over burpee
  • One-armed burpee (Holy crap)
I was only able to perform 5 of these in sequence before my shoulder strength gave out. But impressed with the full body workout. Conclusion – a great workout!
(For instruction examples see YouTube Body Building or visit a local CrossFit.)
The Burpee was supposedly named after a person - Lieutenant Thomas Burpee (1757-1839) of the American Revolution. -Wiki

At the Gym - Juneathon Day 18

The gym was incredibly busy today. I almost ran out the side door.
In the far corner they have this old Universal Gym - “a multi-station bodybuilding machine.”

universal gym

I like it because I don't have to roam around the gym.
Today I worked the triceps with straight bar press downs, then some lat pull downs and finally, one of my favorites, seated rows! (Incorporates a lot of muscles at once.)
Worked on my 100 push-up program when I got home - so I could read in between sets : )

Juneathon Day 18
Stair Climber 1.9 miles
100 pushups 5,6,4,4,7
Pumping Iron - lots
